Welcome to Tioga Pass, a beautiful tourist destination in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Serving as the eastern entry point for Yosemite, it is the highest highway pass in California and is an incredible place to visit during your trip to Yosemite National Park. Not only is the area absolutely gorgeous, you will have a host of interesting activities to take part in, including multiple gorgeous hiking trails, such as the trail to Gaylor Lakes and the rough trail to Mount Dana. Plus, with Dana Meadows right near by—a region with beautiful lakes and amazing wildlife—you can spend your time here just relaxing, hanging out by the lake and watching wildlife as long as you want.
But, above all else, Tioga Pass is known as a scenic entrance to one of the greatest parks in the world. Perfect for those who like to take the scenic route, the absolute beauty that infuses the roadway and the surrounding area is quite breathtaking. There are multiple places for tourists to stop and take pictures, as well as numerous photo opportunities that come about as a result of the peaks, flower filled meadows, and pine forests that surround the area.
However, if you do decide to use Tioga Pass to visit, make sure to check its availability. Unfortunately, during the winter months it is normally closed because of heavy snowfall, meaning you will not be able to access it during the months of November through April, though these dates may vary depending on conditions.
All in all, Tioga Pass is a great place to go if you wish to get a sample of what Yosemite National Park has to offer. A fitting entrance to this wonderful park, Tioga Pass is certainly a “can’t miss”.
