About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!
At the Front Office downstairs, there are 3 washer and 3 dryers, no coins are needed just bring your own detergent and softener.
Is the tap water drinkable?
Yes
Where can I get extra towels?
You can get extra towels as you need them from the front desk. Go downstairs through the door and you will see shelves on the left with clean towels.
Where can I check Road Conditions?
Inside the park, your best resource for road conditions information is by calling 209/372-0200 (press 1 then 1) for the most up-to-date conditions or by visiting this web page: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/conditions.htm
How fast is the Wifi?
All of our cabins provide WIFI. A password is required on all networks. There is also a Wi-Fi hotspot located in our office. If our office is closed, you are more than welcome to sit outside and use it. For more info on the speed and the connectivity of our connection please visit this page: https://redwoodsinyosemite.com/internet-and-data/
Are there restaurants nearby?
The nearest restaurant is in Fish Camp at Tenaya Lodge, a 10-15 min. drive. There are restaurants in Yosemite Valley (North), a 45-minute drive, and Oakhurst (South), a 30-minute drive
Where is the nearest gas station?
There are only three gas stations located inside Yosemite National Park. One is approximately 2 miles from our office, another is in Crane Flat, and the third is in Tuolumne Meadows. We recommend getting gas in Oakhurst because it is less expensive than in the park. The Wawona gas station is located by the Post Office and Wawona General Store on Forest Dr and Highway 41..
Where can I go swimming?
Swinging Bridge, At the end of River Road and across from the school.
Where are EV stations?
At The Redwoods, we have two Chargepoint Level 2 chargers with J1772 plugs at our central office on 8038 Chilnualna Falls Road in Wawona. Besides The Redwoods charger, there are multiple Rivian chargers at the Wawona General Store. Certain Redwoods cabins also have chargers. We recommend bringing a EV charging adaptor..
Can I burn outdoors, pitch a tent, or camp outside?
NO

Great stay at Grandma's Cabin! The cabin was exactly as advised; it was quiet and comfortable. We grilled dinner each night, and it was easy to get to the trail each day to hike. We truly enjoyed our time and would definitely book it again.

Wonderful cabin
We loved our stay in this comfortable and cozy (though roomy) cabin. The fire in the fireplace during the cold weather was so nice. The kitchen was well supplied with dishes and cookware, and a charming general store was very close for coffee and supplies. Grateful for our wonderful home base for our adventures in Yosemite!

We loved our stay, we had everything we needed for a great stay.
Whoever chose the furnishings did a great job. Those reclining chairs are great for reading. They are the most comfortable chairs ever. We appreciated all the homey touches. There was everything we needed - stools, chairs, hooks, rugs, extra blankets, lots of lamps, etc. Great job.

We wanted a cabin in the woods, cozy, with a comfortable pretty, rustic look. We believed this wonderful cabin in the woods overhit our mark by a landslide! Close enough to both Yosemite and the Mariposa Grove (Grizzly Giant). Magnificent hike to waterfalls right off our cabin property too!
Quiet place with a small market forgotten needs.

Our little family enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was peaceful, clean and had everything we needed for our quick getaway. It was located at the end of the property which made it very private. The property is huge with lots of cabin options according to one's needs. We will be booking another trip soon at one of their many choices of cabins.

Highly recommend staying at the Redwoods. Check in and out was simple and easy, and the hosts' responses were quick. The home was super comfortable and clean and a great location —just 45 minutes or so from Yosemite Valley — which seems even less time when you have beautiful views driving through the park. I would again stay at this place if I was to come back to Yosemite. Thank you!

Grandma's Cabin is #1 for our vacations in Yosemite. The fireplace has made our evenings and early mornings so nice. Our family made great use of the BBQ and well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed playing the games with the kids and we also made our very first snow women, using moss for her hair. See you next visit.

How exciting you have snow on the ground. We were surprised an truly delighted. The kids loved snowboarding at Badger Pass, and snow ball fights in the snow play area, then coming home & getting cozy by the warm fire. We felt like we were in our own little winter wonderland and we don't ever want to leave. The renovations The Redwoods is doing to their building our beautiful and we are thrilled to come back soon and see it all finished. Thanks again until next time! Date of Stay: December 2014

We were happy to arrive to our cabin & the light was turned on in anticipation of arrival. it was quite late so that was a plus. The Cabin was very neat & clean & we found everything we needed. It was quite warm during our summer stay & so we very much enjoyed cooling down in the nearby river. The kids even tubed a little down by The Swinging Bridge. We will remember this summer vacation for a lifetime. Thank You Cabin 34 for being a part of it. Date of Stay: August 2014

You are so generous to share "Grandma's Cabin" with us. I've been coming to The Redwoods since I was 8, 47 years now!! I've stayed at quite a few cabins during this span of time (summer & winter), and "Grandma's Cabin" is my favorite. We had the best Christmas ever - it snowed!!
