Psst! Are you looking for a quiet, back-to-nature visit to Yosemite National Park during an ideal time to visit the park, but without many people? Lean in – we’re about to share a surprising secret.

Visit in the second half of August.

Yes, you read that right. Here’s why.

Traditionally, Labor Day marks the end of peak summer visitation as kids return to school. However, schools are starting earlier than they used to. These days, many families settle into back-to-school routines by the middle of August. However, the traditional post-Labor-Day crew won’t arrive until September. That creates an opportunity for Yosemite solitude for those who know to plan their trips during this late-summer lull.

If your children’s schools start a little later, or if you’re not tied to the school calendar at all, late August is a splendid time to book a trip to Yosemite.

It can be almost uncanny how quiet this second half of August can be.

Those who sign up for the open-air tram tours of Yosemite Valley, known playfully as Green Dragon Tours, can usually expect a nearly full tram with 60 or more people sitting shoulder to shoulder. But come the third week of August, Park Rangers suddenly find themselves facing a half-empty tram. Before they can start worrying that it was something that they said, Labor Day rolls around and the trams are healthily full once again until the end of the season.

No Entrance Reservation Hassle

Another huge benefit of making your lodging reservation with The Redwoods In Yosemite is the exemption from the Yosemite Park entrance reservation requirement. Because all Redwoods cabins are located inside the park, you don’t need an additional entrance reservation. (From August 17 to October 27 reservations would otherwise be required to enter the park between 5 am and 4 pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.)

While other visitors may face the additional challenge of competing for entry reservations, guests of The Redwoods In Yosemite can explore the park at their leisure, whether it’s hiking to iconic landmarks like Half Dome or simply soaking in the quiet beauty of a nearby meadow.
