Deer Den (26) Description

Deer Den is a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom home that sleeps up to 6 guests. It has an accessible entrance ramp. The fully equipped kitchen has all the essentials and includes a dishwasher. The living room has a Queen sofa bed, a fireplace (wood provided in season), a satellite flat-screen TV, and WiFi. The partially covered front deck has a gas BBQ, plenty of tables & chairs, & a picnic table.  In the summer, enjoy the spacious deck, and in the winter, cozy up to the stone fireplace.

No pets allowed. This cabin does not have air conditioning.  An EV charging station is available at the Main Office.

About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. 
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

  • Where can I do Laundry?
    At the Front Office downstairs, there are 3 washer and 3 dryers, no coins are needed just bring your own detergent and softener.
  • Is the tap water drinkable?
    Yes
  • Where can I get extra towels?
    You can get extra towels as you need them from the front desk. Go downstairs through the door and you will see shelves on the left with clean towels.
  • Where can I check Road Conditions?

  • How fast is the Wifi?
    All of our cabins provide WIFI. A password is required on all networks. There is also a Wi-Fi hotspot located in our office. If our office is closed, you are more than welcome to sit outside and use it.   • Are there restaurants nearby?
    The nearest restaurant is in Fish Camp at Tenaya Lodge, a 10-15 min. drive.There are restaurants in Yosemite Valley (North), a 45-minute drive, and Oakhurst (South), a 30-minute drive.
  • Where is the nearest gas station?
    There are only three gas stations located inside Yosemite National Park. One is approximately 2 miles from our office, another is in Crane Flat, and the third is in Tuolumne Meadows. We recommend getting gas in Oakhurst because it is less expensive than in the park. The Wawona gas station is located by the Post Office and Wawona General Store on Forest Dr and Highway 41.
  • Where can I go swimming?
    Swinging Bridge, At the end of River Road and across from the school.
  • Where are EV stations?
    At The Redwoods, we have two Chargepoint Level 2 chargers with J1772 plugs at our central office on 8038 Chilnualna Falls Road in Wawona. Besides The Redwoods charger, there are multiple Rivian chargers at the Wawona General Store. Certain Redwoods cabins also have chargers. We recommend bringing a EV charging adaptor.
