About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pick-up game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite have over 120 vacation rental homes and are proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

All of our cabins provide WIFI. A password is required on all networks. There is also a Wi-Fi hotspot located in our office. If our office is closed, you are more than welcome to sit outside and use it. Are there restaurants nearby?
The nearest restaurant is in Fish Camp at Tenaya Lodge, a 10-15 min. drive.There are restaurants in Yosemite Valley (North), a 45-minute drive, and Oakhurst (South), a 30-minute drive
Where is the nearest gas station?
There are only three gas stations located inside Yosemite National Park. One is approximately 2 miles from our office, another is in Crane Flat, and the third is in Tuolumne Meadows. We recommend getting gas in Oakhurst because it is less expensive than in the park. The Wawona gas station is located by the Post Office and Wawona General Store on Forest Dr and Highway 41.

Swinging Bridge, At the end of River Road and across from the school.
Where are EV stations?
At The Redwoods, we have two Chargepoint Level 2 chargers with J1772 plugs at our central office on 8038 Chilnualna Falls Road in Wawona. Besides The Redwoods charger, there are multiple Rivian chargers at the Wawona General Store. Certain Redwoods cabins also have chargers. We recommend bringing a EV charging adaptor.

Excellent vacation rental near the south end of Yosemite National Park, near
Wawona, about 30 miles (an hours drive) from Yosemite Village and the valley
attractions. The cabin we stayed in for 4 days and 3 nights easily
accommodated 6 adults (in three bedrooms) plus 4 teen/tween kids (in a room
with two sets of bunk beds) and our spaniel! There was a foosball table and
plenty of games, a huge high-ceilinged living space and a well-equipped kitchen.
And the beautiful outdoors were just a step away! Will be back!!.

"Great stay! The cabin is a great starting point for exploring Yosemite (it took us about 45 minutes to get to Yosemite Valley). Very comfortable stay and we loved the fireplace (the cabin came with a fire starter and wood). The kitchen was well outfitted for cooking. There was a small general store nearby (a couple of minutes' walk) in case you forget anything or need to purchase food. We would definitely stay here again!"

This cabin is fantastic ... even nicer than the pictures and description suggest. It has four big bedrooms and lots of common space. The kitchen is huge, and we enjoyed watching movies in the evenings in the living room. There is a hot tub out back that they seem to clean every day and is PERFECT after a long day of hiking. And right nearby there are some great trails with waterfalls. We did a 30-minute-ish hike one day to the bottom of a waterfall, and then a 3-hour-ish hike the next to the top. And the day after we went through a fun 3-mile forest hike. All of those were WALKING DISTANCE from the house. The rest of Yosemite is a bit of a drive (an hour) but you can certainly spend at least a few days just here, and then on other days drive to other trails. A nice little community here, and even a few (tiny) stores nearby if you need milk, eggs, or an ice cream bar. In short, this was a great spot, pet-friendly, and it really exceeded our expectations. (We are a family of five, with kids ages 15, 12, and 10.)

The Cedar Chalet was very clean and the kitchen large and very well stocked. The Jacuzzi is large and very clean. We enjoyed early morning and late night looking up at the stars. Very restful and quite. Took long walks around the river and Wawona Hotel. Drive to the Yosemite valley and had lunch at The Ahwahnee Hotel. Saw all the falls and enjoyed all the sights with no crowds!! No snow, but warm sun in February. We look forward coming back. We've stayed in many "Redwoods" cabins, but this is our favorite so far! It was perfect for our size group, nicely furnished, and the kitchen and dining areas were well suited for mealtime. We had three couples and three kids (10, 16, and 18), so the rooms were perfect. We also had two small dogs and were so grateful we could bring them with us. Three bathrooms are a plus, and we even enjoyed the hot tub in the snow. We'll definitely be back to 41A! In addition to the fabulous cabin, the folks at Redwoods In Yosemite couldn't be more kind and friendly--always great customer service, so that's a big plus, too. Date of stay: December 2015

We enjoyed our stay here tremendously. We rented the cabin to host 40 guests for our kids' wedding. Robb and Sarah Schaadt were married June 9th, 2012 at Glacier Point on a perfect day in a magnificent place. The grooms party and dinner were held in the cabin the night before. Everyone had a great time wishing the newlyweds well seeing friends and family not seen in many years. New friendships were created. We can see how people return here again and again. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

We saw a bear crossing a road and a bobcat by the falls near the Ahwahnee hotel. The hot tub was great and a family favorite.
