About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup basketball game at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the park's founding as a national recreation area) and is on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, along the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Fun place to stay with the pool table & foosball. Table was a little worn but still did the job. Plenty of space for everyone & great BBQ grill. Had nice market that had everything you could want. Great star watching at night. Would stay again!

Family Vacation
I love the cabin there at the Redwoods. We stayed at the Meadow View Cabin, which was very nice. Cooking supplies could have been better, but they were sufficient, and there is a small market nearby to get any essentials you may have forgotten to bring with you. The location is great for my tastes....away from the crowds of the valley, yet only an hour drive from there.
There are also some things to do close by.
We hiked the Chilnualna Falls trail. It is very beautiful. It was a bit of a struggle for me to do the 8-mile round trip at 58 years old; however, someone in better condition would have no trouble, and also, it isn't necessary to do the whole thing to see some beautiful views. There are scenic portions of the falls close to the bottom, as well as other portions of the trail as you progress towards the top.
The view from the top is absolutely stunning.
The Mariposa Grove Trail, which starts at the end of the Visitor Center parking lot, is 4 miles round trip, and at the end, you can stroll through the Grove of the Giant redwoods... really something to behold. There's also a shuttle available to take you right to the Grove at certain times of the year. When the shuttle is not available, you can either walk the trail through the woods or walk the road.
Another short hike, about 1 mile, will take you to a hanging, walking bridge below the Chilnualna Falls. It gives you a beautiful view of the fast-moving waters coming from the Falls.

I was really impressed by how clean the cabin was. The check-in was convenient because I got there after 5 PM, and it was pretty easy to check in and get to the cabin.

This was our first time staying in a cabin inside Yosemite National Park. We normally camp, but decided to treat ourselves to a cabin. This was a wonderful cabin, clean and cozy. We loved the pool table. We were so close to the Chilnualna Falls that we could hear the water rushing down the creek. It wa a amazing experience.

We felt very fortunate to have chosen Wawona for our stay, as it was a lovely spot and great to be away from the main bustle of the Valley. When we left, we saw the lines to enter the Park and were also very glad that we had not stayed outside the Park. Wawona had all the facilities we needed for a wonderful stay. The cabin was great, clean and comfortable.

My family and I really enjoyed the cabin. And to our surprise, it was inside the park itself so we were set with the reservation for the whole weekend🙌🏽. Our favorite part was watching the stars every night from the porch.

A great place to spend your time in Yosemite. My family and I went during the winter. There was plenty to do in Yosemite and when we just wanted to relax, this was a great place to just hang out. We would stay in and play board games. My younger sisters loved the pool table too.

We were so surprised to walk into this house and realize how much room there was for the 7 of us. The coca-cola game room was a fun time, but to be honest we spent a ton of hours just sitting in the living room snapping stories. Thanks for the memories!

I came to Yosemite several times as a child and again as an adult. In the late 1950's and early 1960's, my dad helped push the fire over Glacier Point. My father has since passed on this year. Our trip here was a time to spend with family and celebrate his life in the place he loved more than anywhere else. Thanks for letting us use your cabin as a perfect gathering place. Keep up the rustic nature of your cabin. It doesn't need all the modern amenities, it's pretty darn nice as it is. Thanks also for allowing pets. Our dogs are a part of our family, and we enjoyed having them with us.

Eight of our group of ten arrived on Friday, driving in through the most spectacular scenery imaginable. Although it seems unseasonably warm and dry, we thoroughly enjoyed our hikes, meals, and companionship. We enjoyed the location of the cabins, and visiting Glacier Point, Sentinel Dome, Bridle Veil Falls, the Ahwahnee Lodge for drinks, Half Dome, El Capitan, and the Village Museum which has a stunning collection of Native American Baskets. It was a great time.

We arrived late on the 25th., 2 families from Iowa. We went up to the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias. Then on the 27th we decided to hike from Glacier Point down to the Valley on the Panoramic View trail. The hike was a long exhausting day, but very well worth it. We left early on the 28th to head back home to Iowa, we loved your cabin and hope to return someday.
